We are what we are

His kisses were as sweet as tupelo honey,
His eyes the color of the storming sea.
Her embrace wasn't strong enough to hold him,
Because his spirit had to be free.

He stood at the edge of the wind swept cliff
Watching the sea storming below.
He longed to have her and to hold her,
But his spirit longed to go.

Her heart raced free across the prairie
Her eyes the color of the coming rain.
She never wanted to hold him captive
Just taste tupelo honey kisses again.
