Villanelle
Fog hovered like a ghost
caressing the tide;
hugging the coast.

Just when I needed it most
my path it would hide:
fog hovered like a ghost.

Crawling now from rock to post,
Determined, regardless, I tried
hugging the coast.

I needed an angel, or more, a host
to save me this night from myself, my pride.
Fog hovered like a ghost.

A voice echoed, an offered toast:
Morning's sun will come, just bide-
Hugging the coast.

Dawn showed how I almost
tumbled off the cliff and died.
Fog hovered like a ghost
hugging the coast.
