Note to self:

Don't care so much.
Don't get too close.
You'll set yourself up
for another of those

Painful encounters
between heart and mind,
knowing the truth:
You'll be left behind.

But your heart keeps believing
that something will change;
it all will work out
and love will remain.

But you know better
than to trust fairytales.
Life is not like them
and when all else fails

You will be alone
as you always have been.
As ever before,
you are your best friend.

But that is o.k.
Its better, in fact,
than being put down -
you're better than that.

The best of yourself
you just give away -
to someone who didn't
"Love you that way".

So back it down baby,
step away for awhile.
Take care of your heart.
Be sure you can smile.

Remember the pain
you've come through so far,
and do not despair
you are stronger by far

Than even you thought
you ever could be.
So now is the time
for you to break free.

You don't need anyone
you can do it alone.
And when you come through
at last ~ you'll be home
