Villanelle
Old autumn calls me like a long lost friend,
inviting me to sit a spell at ease,
to rest my rusty bones at summer's end.

I take my leisure watching fall descend
and feel the earth relaxing by degrees.
Old autumn calls me like a long lost friend,

and blows her leafy limbs as if to send
a kiss and bid me idle as I please,
Come rest your rusty bones at summer's end!

Though gold October brings a bitter trend
in weather, changing colors warm the breeze
as autumn calls me like a long lost friend.

Tomorrow let the waning days portend
of dreariness and January freeze—
today I rest my bones at summer's end.

Then let me have an empty hour to spend
just stretching out beneath the yellow trees.
Old autumn calls me like a long lost friend
to rest my rusty bones at summer's end.
