This is my ode to love -- tongue-in-cheek, of course. Do we really think this way?

Does it Hurt to Believe?

         Now you
lay me down to seduce.
I pray my dear
my love you'll keep.

I bless:
         every moment you breathe,
         your chest heaves,
         your eyes alight,
         sending away fright
that you might leave.

Also,
         remember to keep
         your promise to stay sweet,
         that you'll never overeat
         and bloat like a moo-cow.
         But, if you do,
                   I'll still love you,
         just don't know how.

Lord, it is hard
         to remember why I love,
         yet, I need to pray
         to hold onto that dream.

But I must digress,
         because on sight unseen,
         I even believe
that you exist.
