What Do You See?

My feelings about how people take one look and turn away.

you look at her
and what do you see?

a little girl
almost 12
studying for the colleges that won't want her in the future
preparing for the heartbreak when people leave her
but still an esscence of hope
on the outside though
is a whole different person
what some would define as
black;
negro;
inferior

take another look

you look at him
and what do you see?

a boy failing school
almost 13
still in the 5th grade
preparing for nothing that's what he wants
there is no hope in him
on the outside
is a whole different person
what some would define as
white;
blanco;
superior

take another look

you look at the person's face
and you see nothing but
you can't see their eyes
or through to their soul even
you go by outside
and when you look at desperate me
looking for you
what do you see?
