Lonely Laughter

people sit...facing the screen
fingers moving across the keys
minds attempting to be keen
desiring to reach out and please

as the words are typed just right
hearts respond in jubilation
laughter rising up in the night
filling lonely rooms across the nation

lonely laughter, filtering through the air
lonely emotions, waiting to be stirred
lonely people, needing someone to care
lonely voices, crying to be heard

the dawning of the new age now here
the world will become a better place
but there is only one thing that I fear
the loneliness that we will all now face
