Keep a secret, or spread gossip? Title borrowed from Shakespeare term.

Lord, I'm tryin' to find my way along your golden path,
but the controversies I run into are tearin' me in half.
I start my day out right. I pray and read Your Word.
Then Satan whispers in my ear, and Your messages are blurred.

I do my best to close my mind when gossip comes to me like this.
I want to stand on your promises, and lead a life of righteousness.
I tell them I don't want to hear what they have to say,
But somehow I end up knowing about it, anyway.

Shakespeare had it right. He called it "Foul Whisperings."
That devil sits and chortles at all the pain that it brings.
She tells him and he tells her, then it comes back to me.
One silent mouth can't keep it from spreading around the community.
Gossip is a killer. Reputations are on the line.
The only business I should be tending to is mine.

Lord, once again I find myself down on my knees tonight,
praying for those who haven't found that silence is golden light.
I may be all alone right now, with no friends to speak of,
but as long as I do right by You, You'll bless me with Your love.
