missing a loved one

I am missing you
to the depth of my soul
I am not complete.
I am not whole.

I expected forever
but that was a dream.
I was hopeful
now it would seem.

To have the experience
of someone to hold
who is not mine,
I was so bold.

You come and go
from my life like the tide
I am wanting more
my feelings don't hide.

Such a gentle person,
such a very good man.
Working your life out
I watch from the side.

I know you'll be back.
I know in my heart.
While you mend yourself
I'll wait on a lark.

It is to be this way,
I understand now.
While I look for myself
You are mending somehow.
