|I've loved the same for thirty years,
I've paid with laughter and with tears.
When I thought it ended, I felt I'd die,
Then I learned the reason why.
It was not somthing I had done,
I just was not the only one.
He said he did not love me less,
But he found himself in a real mess.
He had strayed so long ago
While overseas and did not know
That On one night while getting wild,
Found he had made another child,
He had forgotten as years past,
But the guilt he felt would always last.
Then he opened our front door,
And there stood a child upon my floor.
She was young and dirty with Asian eyes,
With a bundled basket on the rise.
He remembered lessons that I taught,
And brought home what he had wrought.
He said he hoped I would understand,
And not reject his one night stand.
This child, this girl, so frail and sad,
The daughter I wanted, how could I get mad.
I opend my arms and welcomed her home,
And told my love he was not alone.
Because our love can weather an error,
What we have gained is all the rarer.
