Children facing life innocently; unaware of its mocking traps
THOSE POOR KIDS
April 20, 2007

Those poor kids with
their whole lives ahead
of them! Seventy years left
to laugh and cry;
to face life then die;
to fall and to hurt
to climb and to hurt
to win, to lose, to know,
to forget.
Those poor kids with
all those mornings to get
up; those afternoons to
endure; those evenings
to take to bed. All
that laborious living laid
out before them to get
sick and get well in
where they'll find
disappointment,
joy, fun, hate, toil, relief,
regrets, love, forgiveness, grief.
In the end it's all the same.
Those poor kids.
Too young.
Too pure.
Too innocent for
life's ugly mockery.
