An old growth forest is attacked.

In forest dark, trees are standing,
Branches reaching toward the sky.
Messages their leaves are sending,
Creaking limbs, whispered sighs.

Peaceful years, just growing older,
Wisdom gained in quiet gloaming.
Brethren, children, racing upward,
Children of their own are sowing.

Watchful silence, restless slumber,
Sounds like thunder, echo, grow.
Brothers fall when life is over,
Giving life to those below.

To the forest, madness enters,
Destruction rides on metal steed.
Cutting down of lives unfinished.
Scarring forest for their greed.

Over canopy, wind whispers,
Death is coming, death is near.
Silent sentinel, watching giant,
Trees scream.  Can you not hear?
