Poem written in 2001 about an Afghan child's eyes due to the Taliban regime. |
| Dark they are, Lovely and sweet; Unfortunately forlorn, Sadly discreet. Unheard and distraught-- The tears from their cries; Abuse continual From regime we despise. Forever they're scarred From the forced perception Of the terrible fate Of their beloved kin And the acts of sodomy Deliberately done-- The blows repeated, The threat'ning gun! Through a black mesh they peak With their hampered vision, From the ever rising heat And Omar's decision. And such derision This great belligerence Is the truth revealed Revealed with the countenance! Whomever perceives With heart compassionate Into these eyes So dark, so desolate Will come to know With troubled eyes Of the serious plight And regime we despise! |
