Shut My Eyes

This poem is about what happens when a broken heart sees the 'heart breaker' moving on.

I peer into the darkness
Looking for something that can not be found
Seeking for answers under the stars

I walk down the path smoothed over by pebbles
As I search for answers,
my heart becomes heavy,
and my eyes are frozen open

I can no longer shut my eyes
to things I do not wish to see

I see the face of a past lover
with someone else of higher status
My soul shutters
My eyes try to close, but I can't help looking

I want to shut my eyes...

They kiss, they laugh, as we once did
Their smiles shinning like the stars of the night

I want to shut my eyes...

The pain rises up inside of me
like lava inside a volcano, waiting to explode
A single tear streams down my face
and onto my neck
stinging my frozen skin

I want to shut my eyes...
