The Steps to Our Future

This poem won me $50 and inclusion in my High School Graduation Program!

As we took our first steps
Into the hallowed halls of Cleveland Hill
We weren’t just preparing
For of first day of school
But we were preparing for our last

We have done everything
To make our learning experience worthwhile
By joining clubs and sports
To keep us motivated in school

Friends gave us
The encouragement we needed
To succeed in both the classroom
And in life
Teachers have shown us the path
To take to make our next step possible

Although you may not feel
Like you’re ready to leave
We have been given the best lessons
And values in life during the past 13 years

The scary part is what is to come-

Most friendships will fall apart
But the true ones will stay
The lessons from the long classes
We thought could never help us
Will give us the most help
In our next experiences

So I say
Let’s all take our final steps
Across the stage
Of our beloved high school
And take our first steps
As one
Into our future
