Humor about the frustrations of a struggling artist |
The Artiste Forgetting those things that are left behind I need a new verse something that rhymes Something to pick me up when I’m bleak Something to make me laugh's what I seek Sitting in front of my old laptop The words will not come I feel like a flop Looking forward to those things that are ahead I got nothing creativity is dead Not a “doth” nor a “twas” nor a “tis” comes to me Dr. Seuss made it look easy to write poetry Cat in the Hat; Green Eggs and Ham The Grinch Stole Christmas; I am Sam Piece of cake; nothing to it; I told my boss when I quit The bill collectors are now calling and having a fit I wonder if Rudyard Kipling started like this Did Robert Frost ever swing and miss? My wife’s not too happy it’s easy to see She just will not acknowledge the genius in me My first poem was bad the second was worse No masterpiece to put cash in her purse She says that I really don’t have the time To sit around thinking of things that rhyme Now she suggests maybe I’m not an artiste And If I don’t get a job I’ll be needing a priest Dennis Bazzell April 3 2007 |
