Foolish Pride

If I could turn the hands of time
back to the days when you were mine,
before you left me all alone.
I'd meld your heart within my own.

Now, all the things I left unsaid
rattle around inside my head.
My hollow heart cries out for you,
recalling things I didn't do.

I never mentioned how I felt
until the final card was dealt.
Too late to charm back to my side,
when all you felt for me had died.

A lesson learned; it hurt so much
never again to feel your touch.
Not able then to turn the tide.
Oh what you cost me, foolish pride.
