a thought on how the world frowns on optimism as we grow older
when i was a very young boy
i believed i'd live forever
and every day was just a little better
than the day that came before

(when i was)
when i was a very young boy
the clocks on the walls moved so slow (moved so slow)
but now I'm grown and much older
and time's become just something I know (something I know)

i was a young boy then
when the trees were green
and they, they whispered to me
and they said "you'll never (never) (never) believe..."

never believe all the things
that i'll come to be (come to be) (come to be)
and so-
when the wind blows
just goes to show
that time never stops at all

i was a young boy then
and i believed so many things (believed so many things)
but the young boys always learn the truth somehow
but only the very very lucky ones
never forget (never forget) what we believed when we were young.
