darkness

the darkness in the night leaves me with such a fright

A creak, a crack,
The confidence I lack.
A bump, a thump,
The things that make me jump.
The shadows on the wall,
The portraits down the hall.
Nightmares with no dreams,
Waking up to only screams.
Monsters under the bed,
Is it only in my head?
The ghosts and goblins shriek,
All my senses peak.
The darkness envelops my being,
No believing without seeing.
Pray for a good night,
Don’t let the bedbugs bite.
