i gave up emo music for lent, and this is why

i heard a song while out with him

and every chord cut through me
and haunted me all day
i thought i threw that cd out
into the fountain
with the ring
i thought i'd peaked the mountain
but then i found the thing
and it was always like a mix tape
though you shared it all around
the music was our special way
of telling secrets in a crowd
and God i miss that
do you know i loved you most
the last time i walked away?
i missed you every day for months
and every night i prayed
that she was somewhere out there
and she could right my wrongs
and she could speak in songs the way we do
i hear there's someone new now
and hopefully she's the one
who makes you glad it never worked
with me, or anyone
but i won't call to ask you
