The homeless are human beings, down for a while, give hope, share the meat
Nearing winter's end
there's a cabin one can go
To watch the Season's changing face
emerging neath the snow

The Hearth's curling flames
reflects it's warmth on the walls
A candle slowly burns
kittens in furry balls

Winter sits outside
keeping anxious Spring at bay
Vainly shows her fleeting beauty
before melting away

The roast so tender
another slice I not dare
Still warm in it's juices
permeating the air

Some russets are left
the Hearth's embers roasted treat
They were ever so succulent
in the drippings of meat

Pen ink and paper
chocolate truffles and brandy
on a desk of maple
wait patiently for me

The perfect evening
but so out of reach it seems
For indigent poets as I
happens only in dreams

Winters we despise
we seek shelter to survive
The trash in alleys' cans
we burn to stay alive

We forage your trash
for tender morsels to eat
Our noses we rely on
if it's bad or a treat

There's no maple desk
on park benches we write
We pen all the poems
for pleasant dreams at night...
