Lasting Hurt

this is another that won the editors choice award

wonder if they can feel the sting
before the words leave their mouth
if the words make their ears ring
or make their hearts turn about

for some reason i become cold
my whole body trembles in anger
what makes them feel so bold
as to criticise a stranger

they don't know me and i know them not
and i prefer it better that way
who needs friends defiled and rot
whose minds are total decay

though they care not for me
in my heart i do care
i wish that they could see
the love i have to share
