A poem about life for the innocent as they grow older. |
| When the sanctity of innocence And the pure feelings of trust wane From the days of carefree youth Into the colder, lifeless abyss of the Fall, We begin to appreciate that Life and love are what we make of it – That neither exists to please our ever ripening souls. Our nourishment from spirit and worldly deeds Are in abundance amid a changing climate Of truth and substance That does not apparently need us To strive for it. Love becomes a commitment to a Higher Power And an excellence in learning, And experience has taught us the many approaches To handle both ubiquitous and uncommon situations. Remarkable how lovers handle love with decency and concern, Spreading those intimate vows of pleasure and caring To the young children whose lives they touch, While the loveless and forgotten learn that the struggle to exist Knows no decency or concern. Even God knows that The more love you get, The more love you give, And that love is consistent, true, and honest In even its most depreciative form… |
