Blue Wonder
(free verse)


they draw you closer
they take your breath
you can't help but stare
you can't help but wonder

they tell you stories
they betray feelings
you need to look
you need to know

they drag you in
they say they love you
you should see
you should think

and then a storm runs wild through them:
a hesitant echo resounds far off inside
you know then it's real; you know then it's true--
blue eyes that have let down their guard for you
