A Missing Piece of the Puzzle

Feelings after a major loss

A lifetime of longing for someone to care,
to hold me and comfort me during moments of fear.
Wondering where you had gone and if you would return,
caused nightmares long forgotten suddenly to return.
Years of lies caused a rift unable to be broken,
when all I wanted was to hear your words spoken.
Unable to fix the damage already done,
it was unbearable once I knew you were truly gone.
Now left to pick up the pieces of my life
much like a puzzle scattered on the floor.
It's impossible to find each of the pieces
because an important one is missing.
