This is a short piece of writing about the Jews in wartime Germany. |
| I can remember screams and shouting from down stairs. I was scared and frightened. I expected at any moment for the green police to break the door down and take me to Auschwitz. I was trembling, breathing shallowly hoping they wouldn’t hear me. I hid in the corner and rocked myself to sleep. I woke in the morning and searched for ma and pa. My pulse quickened and my knees felt weak. The WC, I thought and headed towards the small room situated in the corner of the attic. Footsteps came up behind me and I half expected a bullet to stick into my back and myself to collapse into an unconscious heap. |
