Fat.
I remember
it being fat like
a rock but hairy
with tiny spikes and black
so stark--
like mascara--
one could have
nightmares in
it, alone, much less
the sound of
it
the coming-to-get-you
hum,
the going-to-kill-you
buzz
that menaced your
nerves and taunted
you that it
could . . .
it very well could.
