Lost love's sorrow

Each day my memories take me,
To a time so long ago.
When happiness and love’s caress
Caused my heart to glow.

But memories are too fleeting,
So short do they remain.
Joys are lost, at such a cost.
My heart’s now filled with pain.

Perhaps it would be easier
If another I could blame.
For all lost years, for my heart’s tears
But on me rests all the shame.

If only I could manage,
To make one dream come true.
I’d change the past and hold you fast,
To prove my love for you.
