A poem written for a Fahrenheit 451 contest. |
This poem was an assignment for my AP class. It is centered around the novel Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. Burn, Burn, Burn Do not look into the flames. The licking fire consumes. Cover your mouth against the smoke. Deadly are the fumes. Beautiful fire catches the eye, and it cannot look away. What can it see amongst the flames? The path to another way. Amidst the twirling, swirling blaze a word caught here and there. Can anything that cracks and burns be worth this much despair? The mind can easily wander and wonder what the pages really say. But who could have the courage just to reach out and a hand and betray? In the end, the body stands still, watching the conflagration turn. To avoid the temptation, the mind thinks to itself, "Burn, burn, burn." |
