The goal for my website, bradylee.com
|My name is Brady Lee. I recently graduated from the University of Florida with a BA in Art History and a minor in Italian Studies. My area of study is the Italian Renaissance, specifically networks of patronage in Medicean Florence. Think Godfather, 500 years ago. Before I return to academia for my Masters work and Ph.D, I am commissioning my own set of works…works of the more personal kind.
This website was born out of my love for writing about a broad range of topics—sports, movies, life. My favorite format is correspondence with my friends, so expect much of the same here. While I am intellectually rigorous, perfectly edited term papers will not be the norm. Instead, I am more interested in a colloquial, forum-type atmosphere that allows the mind—both writer and reader—to think without having to watch their backs at every turn. Yes, logic is important, but what is the mind without the heart?
In the same vein, I also view this website as a social experiment. I want to know how honest, open and vulnerable writing will be received by friend and stranger alike. Far from the “I like Suzy Q” format of adolescent and high school blogs, I am more interested in the deeper structures of the human condition. While my lens will sometimes gaze into areas that are not my expertise, I will focus on the way I interpret my life—both the normal day to day struggles and the broader pursuits.
At its heart, this website is my acknowledgment of the human need to relate in deep and substantial ways with other people; the hardest area of life to master. This truth cuts directly into the idealism that could cripple a project like this. On the surface, people like platitudes and nice-sounding ideology. But on a deeper level, even the most logical ideas fall flat on their face when they lack the true human touch. This website hopes to be infected by that human touch.
Finally, this website seeks to encourage those who read it. Foundationally, this website is based on good faith efforts to seek truth, and my goal is for that to radiate from both my writing and the forum that my writing creates. The atmosphere—and its sometimes counterintuitive nature—will hopefully leave the reader better able to approach even the tough questions in life with grace and joy. Tangentially, aspects of this website—such as the Verse of the Day—will provide daily encouragement for those who seek it.
