The Shallow Toll of Wonder

Whosoever will distance himself
from adoring eyes to encompass a
friendship as deep as a mark on paper?

To what degree does one go to procure
adoration, and how shallow is the
mind that becomes so struck in wonderment?

Is this the way one ministers to the enamored
soul who comforts and captures his heart in
expressive moments of despair and enlightenment?

Whosoever will be so dark,
as to pour rain onto the thoughts
of a kind and barely uttered aura?

Not he who loves unconditionally.
Not he who is optimistic.
Not he who oozes positivism.

He who ponders his own plight’s significance
over his brother’s, visualizes the future through
the tunnel of despair known infamously as
his own mind.
