I Never Even Dreamed...

I never even dreamed
that I'd have this chance again
to see you, hear your voice--
drum out all my pain

I never even dreamed
that I would see your face
But here I am dumbfounded--
feeling like I've just been in a race

I never even dreamed
that my smile would reach your eyes
Or that my voice would ring into your ears--
like the music of yours in mine

My heart pounds harshly at my ribs
struggling to cope with this sight
My mind is yelling, "Get a grip!"--
but I can no longer focus right

I never even dreamed
You'd look into my eyes
or smile the way you would at me
never dreamed the chance would arise
