The images of Indian summer

INDIAN SUMMER
October 15, 2008

Red skin over molten
squash and wine-sap
cider suckling broken
tree parts, running
slowly, dripping thickly
across slanted sun-swept
fields, pooling down
dying boles, feet
buried in friable
opals. Thin burning arms
rising over a cracking,
hardening world.
