He can't hurt me anymore because as far as I'm concerned, he's dead.

HE’S DEAD

He’s dead.
He doesn’t know it
even when I laugh in
his face. He questions
my mirth not at all--
Perhaps he thinks I’ve
heard a joke. He’s
dead and now, finally,
I can live.
