On the Wall

There is a poster on my wall.
Van Gogh's, "Starry Night."
I get lost in the lights,
paints and colors and swirls.

On a country lane,
bright as heaven's dream,
I picture myself walking
hand in hand with you.
Although we never had
more than my heart's wishes
and your loneliness,
I noticed just yesterday,
that you have the same
print in your living room.

Although you have another life,
and make a beautifully wedded wife,
I wonder if you ever gaze at
the lovely bright night portrait
and wonder "what if?"
