not all is lost
The fire remains;
fire in my longing,
fire inside.

South of heaven,
north of town,
that's where I now live.

The fire remains;
fire in my longing,
fire inside.

It ain't much
but it beats tar paper,
rotten boards and rotten dreams,
where winter winds froze
and summer sun's scorched.

I grew up there
with fleas, pets, terror,
and a constant empty stomach.

The fire remains;
fire in my longing,
fire inside.

I know I love you.
I think you love me.
We never act upon it.

The fire remains;
fire in my longing,
fire inside.
