An Oath to Yourself

A poem written to express the hurt that love brings.

Your footsteps echo on the stone,
as you fall into the memories of
All the secrets, all the lies,
all the promises she broke.

Nothing seems to make the pain
easier to deal with and you know
that she's watching, waiting to
see you crash, fall, crumble.

Resentment clouds your vision,
but you can't fall into the cycle of
vicious hatred. No one ever
heals from the serving of revenge.

Life continues onward, your
mind wrapped in shrouds of silence
as you make an oath to yourself to
never let your world fall again.

Never fall again to the likes of her.

No one else will shatter you,
No one else will break you.
No one else will love you.

Love is just a fallacy, an illusion,
a broken promise, misguided passion-
A sparkling moment that is too short
for the shattered heart you hold.
