Purple Snakes By Barbara Wilson© I had a dream that purple snakes, With yellow faces swam Across a pond of ducks and hakes Straight now to where I am. The closer that the serpants came, The greater grew my fear And bigger they themselves became I thought, “Why am I here?” Like savages they swam around And circled me with glares A writhing dance so terrible All stood up of my hairs. One darted in and looked at me With fierce red and green eyes He bared his fangs and smiled in glee I felt that I would die. Then suddenly, a bright light shone Down through the dark, cold water And all the purple snakes were gone Without my being slaughtered. |
