Love or Loss

Wrote this for a creative writing class. It kinda flowed and wrote itself.

Happiness is underrated
It overwhelms me when I see that gated road
The road to a long missed home
Memories flooding back to me
Happy days long gone, the laughter still lingers

Until I remember the pain that caused me to leave this home
The loss of a best friend
The tears begin again though the pain never ended
The conflicting emotions take over my being
Smiling through the tears

Wishing I could go back and do it over
Make this house a home once again
End the pain before it began
If only I could tell her the truth now
Tell her that the 'toy' was loaded
Before I pulled that simple trigger
And began my journey never ending

But for now, I cry
Mourn my loss
And force myself once more
To turn away from that gated road
