Written on a school lunch break a few years back

An aspiring young writer
uncaps his pen
sitting hunched as though
in a darkened den

attempting to leave
this world that he knows
and enter into
a world that grows

he drowns out the laughter
all the talk and the noise
he tries to ignore those
very boisterous boys

and slowly fading
this place falls from view
suddenly his mind
is refreshed and renewed

in his minds eye
he sees the wonderous place
and a small smile of joy
alights on his faces

the pen meets the paper
the ink sprawls out
quickly he writes
as his eye looks about

pages and pages
just scroll on by
his smile grows wide
as his spirits are high

then dim goes his world
the noon bell rings,
yet it does nothing
to shatter his dreams

he recaps the pen
folds up the book
stands from his seat, but
with a last, lingering look

as he walks to class
the smile doesn't fade
it stays on his face as
though thats how it was made

for he knows his place
it is now written in ink
and all he must do is
read it and think
