Angels are not cute, or cherubic. Biblical angels are frightening, powerful.

Bright light
Frightening Mary,
Announcing the Holy Birth,
The angel was imposing,
Inspiring fear and adoration,
Imparting peace.

Beautiful,
Appearing human,
Rescuing Lot,
The angels blinded the attackers
And destroyed the city,
Delivering judgment.

Ablaze
In the desert,
Calling to Moses,
The angel of the Lord flamed up
In the burning bush, not burning up,
Revealing God.

Glorious
Bursting with good news
The angel woke the shepherds,
Scaring them, exciting them,
Declaring hope for all men,
Imparting peace.
