this is a poem i wrote my grandfather when he passed away

WITH YOU GONE

With you gone, the world seems different
The things I always thought I knew
At once all changed in that one instant
And gone with them in peace, was you.
With you gone, I must open my eyes
For you can’t lead me here anymore
I must see for myself, I must say my goodbyes
Even as my heart had ached for your soul.
But with you gone, I gained new understanding
That you were more than a blessing just passing through
And though you’re gone, I’m still standing
And that’s partly, mostly because of you.
With you gone, the world has lost
A dear friend and father
But the Lord my God, the Lord of hosts
Loves you dearly still as any other.
            I won’t remember your leaving
For I’m not all alone
In time joy will come, and lost bereaving.
I’ll move on ‘cause you showed me how
Even though you’re gone.
