An blues ode to the Texas heat |
| The Three Digit Blues When the sky is bright and brassy without a whisper of a breeze, the heat index is brutal, it makes the sweat break on your knees; it's too hot to walk around outside: a hundred-three degrees. You've got the three-digit blues when the weather is news: you got the three digit blues. The air conditioner's moanin' even when the sun goes down; get in your car - you're groanin' as you ease your backside 'round; swimming pools are overflowing, playgrounds empty all over town. Well, that's the three digit blues; the weather is news: you've got the three-digit blues. You're hiding from the sun and so your blinds are shut up tight; the heat just slaps your face if you go out before twilight; and it's not only vampires now who live their lives at night. But that's the three digit blues; the weather is news: and we got the three digit blues all right. Sarah Unsworth MacMillan July 2009 |
