I know an author who spends a lot of her time being sad, so I wrote this for her.
When you close your eyes

All is grey
And you feel a little hollow
And the days seem to fade away
There is nothing left for you to do
I speak my lines
And the notes between connect us
Through the bars of a rhyme
I will be there for you

When you close your eyes,
watch the darkness inside
I’ll still be here calling out to you
When you look inside,
and the fire that burnt has died
I’ll still be here calling out to you

All is grey
And that used to fill you with hope
Beneath endless symmetry
The world is blank canvas and gentle slopes
But the shapes that you paint
Stretch like hours of the day
Beneath the constant heavens
All colours are just grey

When you close your eyes,
watch the darkness inside
I’ll still be here calling out to you
When you look inside,
and the fire that burnt has died
I’ll still be here calling out to you
-
And as put your head into your hands
And cry, I’ll still understand
And as your pour your soul into a glass
And pour it out; I’ll still hold your hand

All is grey
And you feel a little hollow
And the days seem to fade away
There is nothing left for you to do

And as put your head into your hands
And cry, I’ll still understand
And as your pour your soul into a glass
And pour it out; I’ll still hold your hand
-
Tracing shadows, dancing on the wall
Watching the sands of time trickle past us all
And fly, as the wind blows into the velvet light
The shadows walk across the land as day runs into night
As the world is ever moving, whirring silently in space
Like the motion of a clocks hand encircling its face
So the darkness on the outside doesn’t seem so sad and strange
Just a better way to frame the constancy of change

When you close your eyes,
theres only darkness inside
I’ll still be here calling out to you
When you look inside,
and the fire that burnt has died
I’ll still be here calling out to you
