the life of a new baby

you get the call
and can not believe it
they say to come right away
all your family can do is sit and wait

you wait and wait for hours it seems
but that wait pays off when you see

she's here she's here the father says
as he brings her to the nursery
when you see her cry and she opens her eyes
you get tears that well up and you want to cry
you hug the kids and say this is your new baby sister
and then you say you will have to protect her
