Tonight
We could pretend
Pretend that we know each other
That we’ve been together for a while
Together as lovers, we’ll pretend

Because that’s all I’ve ever known
I’ve never known love in its true form
I’ve never known true love

Tonight
You took me out
Out to a bar, to have a drink
T o be surrounded by people
So that I could feel less alone

Tonight
We went for a walk
A walk along the busy streets
Overflowing with cars and streetlights
And down an alley we went
Where I thought I would feel less alone



Because that’s all I’ve ever known
I’ve never known another’s true company
I’ve never known what they call love

Tonight
I played pretend
Pretended that we were lovers
Lovers who thought they knew each other
But maybe it was all a lie

Because with you, I just pretend
To feel less alone
To be in love

And it’s only in this pretend world
That I feel anything at all

& you’re the one who showed me this place
This illusion, this make-believe world
