Remembering the Veterans |
| Just Visiting Carved in an ancient pine stand Inviting Secluded Sacred Circle Path Circle View from above Infinity There are no coincidences A ceremony is about to begin The gentleman says to me “I hope some one will attend.” I tell him it is the anniversary of My Mother’s death. The man in the black suit wanders off, Rehearsing the words, looking appropriately thoughtful. I stay, finding shelter in the headstones One for each parent Both World War II veterans Others do come. All ages, sizes, demeanor Two men in uniform, One carries a flag case Both somber, purposeful No need for me to stay now I send to the soul, my prayer Mother Earth chooses the moment Birth Life Death I hear TAPS And begin to sob Two weeks ago I was at Arlington Honoring a pagan couple. Their Tombstones were barren. Grieving, I listen in peace Day is done, gone the sun.... What are the rest of the words? I am amazed People come in, Briefly visit Place mementos and leave I cane here on the spur of the moment Now I cannot leave. DancingStar November 7, 2006 Boscowan NH __._,_.___ __,_._,___ |
