observations of life
canvas and fine linen

do you remember what we used to wear?
leather.
leather wrapped around our legs
and the colors of our families
woven in blankets to keep us warm
and we were able ,
always able
to lay them out like fine linen
and feast
and love
and laugh
and fast
and breath and birth and bury
and find our selves in other clothes

like hats
like hats the asian ladies wear
and shoes made for gypsies
with them
we could find ourselves
not so suddenly
moving fast
in dancing circles
a little red with the drink
but earthly having fun

in the winter
we would wrap in coats
made of weathered canvas
smelling somewhat of the sea
wet and close'
like sailors not clean shaven
close but not quite touching
where sea salt touched our skin
can you taste that time again

leather bound woven families
looking for hats and happy shoes
know in truth
just like us
most of life lies between
canvas and fine linen
