The words are on my tongue

The words on my breath hung

Don’t touch my hand so I don’t burn you
I’m fire and I’m ice
I don’t care if you love me
I’ve given over being nice

Get out of range so I don’t cut you
My tongue is like a knife
I’ve never been so poisonous
But now it’s growing rife

Stop trying so hard so I don’t spurn you
I’m spent with effort by now
I don’t love you though God knows I tried
But I never figured out how
