what has happened in my life

our house was always open
it took us places we had never been
a tent in the woods
a fort to keep out the enemy

but it was also at times hard
our house was over one hundred years old
and one day our chimney just fell
right through the middle of it

it took a long time to repair
but with the help of friends and family
and with hard work lots of it
it became a home again

the worst of all a couple of years later
a tornado struck cracked our house in half
yes we were in it all five of us
praying it would pass us

they condemed our house after just a few steps
without a place to live friends started to show up
they brought food and supplies
and helped us to rebuild the house from the bottom up

we barely even knew some of these people
but none the less they were there to help us
as we became acquainted
we learned a lot about them

like the week before us
their hundred year old house
burned to the ground
they had nothing

now as i look back on those days i realize
we were fortunate to have friends like them
